ULTRA was exhibited as a film as part of Third Thursdays’ commissioning programme on Thursday 17th February 2022 in the window of Knoops, 42 Market Street, Brighton.

In ULTRA, you, the viewer are offered the opportunity to observe your own connection and reaction to colour, however it resonates with you politically, culturally, and personally. 

To have the best experience possible, it is recommended to watch the film in full with no distractions in as darker environment as possible to let the colour wash over you and really indulge yourself in it.

About Ultra

ULTRA is a multidisciplinary research project into colour and its relationship to emotion and wellbeing. The motivation for this project originated from a desire to understand how colour can be therapeutic to those suffering from dementia; if we can analyse our own response to colour, could we learn to use colour and gesture to communicate to the unconscious mind of others? 

The film has been created in collaboration with 12 highly skilled artists from dance, film, sound, lighting design and costume, each exploring their own emotional relationship to colour in their own medium. The film is influenced by the stages of dementia, a journey through disorder and peace. Seven dancers lead the viewer through a series of seven colours and emotive states. Together, they represent one consciousness and one human journey.

ABOUT THIRD THURSDAY

Third Thursdays is an arts, music and culture programme that aims to make the centre of Brighton the place to be, with events, performances, film projections and new artwork commissions.

Third Thursdays is a partnership project between ABCD Cultural Recovery Plan and Brilliant Brighton Business Improvement District, curated and produced by videoclub. It is supported by Arts Council England, Brighton & Hove City Council, Pebble Trust and the Welcome Back Fund (European Regional Development Fund and HM Government).
